Oompa Loompa!!

As I write this, my ears are enjoying the musical bliss that is the newest soundtrack in my collection: Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. When I saw the movie and heard the score by Danny Elfman, as well as the "new" Oompa Loompa musical interventions directly from the book, I just had to get the album. Being the faithful supporter of legal music downloads, I waited for the soundtrack to be released on iTunes. A couple of weeks later after watching the film, this Tuesday it was finally out ready to sail the vast sea of the Internet and dock today at the port of its final destination: my iPod. It came with a couple of interesting remixes to boot (exclusive for iTunes customers only, I might add). So if you haven't seen the movie, what the heck are you doing reading this? Go watch it and enjoy the sights and sounds that director Tim Burton has in store for you!

Masters Of The University

For a while I've been itching to get back to school. I graduated from college some four odd years ago, dedicating the rest of my time to working. But now, after my wife has her Master's and working on her second, as well as an officemate starting one today, I kind of feel I'm being left in the dust from all this intellectual advancement.

Interesting enough, I received a call from my mom today telling me that the last day for admissions at the Polytechnic University is this Saturday. I guess I've waited long enough. Time to hit the books again, I suppose, and better my brain in the ways of higher education.

Now, whether to start a Master's in Engineering or Computer Science? I think I need to ponder this a bit more, at least before paying the admission fee!

SPAWN MORE OVERLORDS!!

This weekend my wife and I took the time to clean our apartment and throw out all the garbage we've accumulated since we moved in over two years ago. Rummaging around the plastic boxes I found a bunch of my old console and computer games, among them the StarCraft series from Blizzard.

So I decided to install them on my laptop and, even though these games are seven years old, they still manage to get me hooked! Right now I'm on the first Terran campaign, the human species of the three available races. I can't wait to play with my favorite: the Zerg! These are the vicious alien species which are wreaking havoc on the galaxy and, in my opinion, totally kick the other races asses! Although it's a real pain whenever I go against the damned Protoss, the last alien species, which use rechargeable energy shields to protect themselves.

Anyway, the next installment of the StarCraft series is coming out next year, called StarCraft: GHOST, and I'll probably post about it as soon as I get my hands on the game.

One Strike And They're Out

As I was walking from my car to the office, I noticed a small group of young people walking the same direction I was. Knowing that one of the companies I work for deal in promotions, I payed no mind and wrote it off as bunch of teenagers looking to score a job with them. But I was puzzled when I saw them entering the offices of our neighbors, the arquitects. Again, I dismissed my curiosity and went straight to clock in for the day.

An hour or so later, a contractor working for our department mentioned he saw a strike going in in front of our offices. Curiosity struck again and I hurried down to see what the ruckus was all about. Indeed there were twenty or so people, most of them the same I saw during the morning, rallied in front... protesting! And to make things worse, the various news stations, TV as well as radio, were covering the spontaneous event, fueling the fire of this whole mess; even the police came!

In summary, students from the University of Puerto Rico are still cranky about the raise in tuition and are looking for any means to make themselves seen or heard at the cost of other's productivity. There's a saying which I believe it's in spanish so I'll try to translate: "The rights of one person end where another's begin." If they want to protest, fine, but don't get in the way of other's who have nothing to do with your plight.

I'm just yammering away at what I saw happen today and how we as puerto ricans fall prey to the drama.
