Trouble In The IT Sandbox
Nearly all day today was dedicated to making 2 completely opposing operating systems play nice with each other. A part of my office is being divided, with its own server and everything, for a new advertising campaign. The problem is that the entire office is run on Macs and they ordered a Windows 2003 Small Business Server to control the operations of the new network. You can probably guess I'm not too fond of Microsoft's system offerings, and you would be right, but I had no say in what server should've been purchased.
So, now we have a monumental task: get these entirely different beasts to mate. To start things off with a bang, or should I say crash, one of the server's disks was not being recognized after installing some Internet security software by You-Know-Who. After an hour or so the machine was back up and we started to toy around with settings on both server and my laptop. After many, many tries, we managed successfuly to log into my PowerBook, requesting permission from the Windows server, and also configure email services. We felt pretty good about what we accomplished, until we tried to exchange files between both machines. Nothing. Apparenty there is some configuration we might have overlooked, so we'll look into it tomorrow afternoon.
Let's just hope Steve and Bill's "kids" get along soon!
