A Cut In The Rough

Previous Episode: Hollywood Here I Come!

Last night my pal Digital came by my apartment so we could finish editing the fight sequence we've been working on. We compared each of our edits and meshed them into one final rough cut. I'm happy to say it came out very nice. I've learned a lot of movie editing these past few days from tinkering with Final Cut Express and Digital's guidance. I guess this is the way he's paying me back for introducing him to the new love of his live: Macintosh!

Anyway, he then showed me the process of how to make the lightsaber effect using Adobe's After Effects. Let me tell you the process is no easy task and tedious as well! You practically have to go frame by frame to add the glowing blade many have come to know and love. This will definitely not be an easy task.

For this project, not only have I served as assistant editor, but now as score editor as well. Since music is needed to give an additional element for a great movie, I'm listening to almost every soundtrack I own. The perfect musical arrangement is among my collection somewhere. I just have to listen very carefully.

The next step is the approval of our edit by a friend of ours who directed the sequence.

This is where I write To Be Continued...
